Planning the St Francis Way
General Research
- Caminoways made the whole process easy. Good information is included in the drop down for each days walk to help you plan out your trip.
- Sandy Brown did most of the hard work to document the walk for people like me. His site and resources are invaluable.
- Michael Turtle on his site has a series of great photos showing you a glimpse of what you will experience. Well done Michael.
- Slow Italy has another series of great photos and information.
Guide Book and GPS routings
- Cicerone trecking specialists have produced a great guide book which gives detailed descriptions and maps for each day. I bought this in advance to help we plan out my walk, working out where to double up and where to join two days together.
- Once you buy the book you are also able to access routing maps that make following the sometimes tricky trials so much easier. To do this
- Download the GPX routing files provided by the books author Sandy Brown from the Cicerone site
- Follow the instructions also from Sandy Brown showing how to use an iphone or ipad based GPS application such as MotionX (this is option 2 and I have set this up on an ipad mini which gives you detailed maps and the trail routings you can use real time to manage your walk without the need for a telephone network. These maps should ensure you don’t get lost unless you are truly trying.
