The Walk

St Francis Way

Via Francigena di San Francesco or Cammino di Francesco

The month long trip takes you through some of the most picturesque country in Italy

The core trip is some 560km and takes you from historic Florence over the Apennine Mountains through some of the most historic settlements in Italy with both Medieval and Roman settlement dotted along the routing.

My itinerary is below – I have a few pretty tough days in there walking over 30km’s with quite a lot of climbing and descending.

  • Hi, Darren!

    Loving your blog!

Im off soon …. to follow yr track … but, indeed, very apprehensive about everything , from signs, to steep ascent!! And not many cafes or restos along the way?

How do i subscribe to yr blog?

Let me know pls…..im excited, but at same time, I’m not!

    Kind regards
    Vicky

    • HI Vicky,

It was a great experience, a test of my stamina and a chance to take a little time out, either to think about life or to think about nothing. The one bit of advice I would give is to have a day out after 6 or 7 days. I pushed too hard and my feet got sore which I carried for the rest of the trip.

I am not active on the blog currently but I am using it to produce a 400 page coffee book. The blog was a great way to raise money and a fabulous record of the journey.

Are you doing the full trip?

The other thing to mention is make sure you have a map app and the GPX files. It can be confusing at times but with these you will be right.

      All the best

      Darren
